Welcome to Nata Knows Best! An exclusive YouTube and Food Blog dedicated to showcasing recipes from my Puerto Rican and Nicaraguan heritage, along with the occasional dessert recipes.
I created this baby as a way to tap into my creative juices and keep myself sane during the infamous 2020 Quarantine.
Childhood
I am a full bred Miami, Florida girl. My wonderful mother was born in Nicaragua. That’s in Central America by the way. While my amazing father was born in the U.S territory of Puerto Rico.
Growing up, my Latino culture shaped me in a huge way. While most of my classmates ate pancakes and waffles for breakfast, I grew up eating rice and beans – thanks mom! π
During summers when my classmates went to amusement parks and summer camps, my brother and I visited our grandparents in their respective countries. Back then, we swore we were being shipped off – yes very dramatic. Overtime we came to understand that our parents just wanted to keep us humble and grounded in our diverse and colorful roots.
Self Taught Foodie
From all aspects of my culture, the one I first loved was food. I learned how to cook young and often watched my parents in admiration, as they made some of the most delicious food I have ever tasted. Yes, I am biased. As a little girl, I first mastered the simple dishes like scrambled eggs by always being in the kitchen- watching and learning. By 10 years old, I graduated to more advanced dishes.
Now in adulthood, I am constantly learning new skills through recipe development and cookbooks from professional chefs I admire. Most, if not all the recipes I make are tested and approved by my family. I’m sure you all can relate; families are hard to please with new recipes. It’s like you are on an episode of Food Network’s Chopped, with all of their critiques! So rest assured, any recipe I post is tried and true.
I’m just a simple home cook that enjoys good food and great energy. I learn as I eat!
Mi Gente
Well, if you have made it this far – thank you! I can already tell you are a loyal supporter. In my creative food world, my supporters are family. Thus, I call you all Mi Gente. In Spanish, it is a phrase used to kindly describe your people; your tribe; your family. Whether I know you by name or not at all, I love and appreciate you for supporting Nata Knows Best.
Well, there you go! A cute summary of my life. Hopefully you learned a bit about me and my passion for food. I’m getting a little hungry – so you know where to find me π
Nata Knows Best was founded in 2020 in kitchen outside of Miami, Florida.
