My love for traditional Puerto Rican Coquito is endless, but on the days I want something different I pick my Nutella Coquito. Similar to the original authentic coquito recipe, this creamy Nutella version is mixed with coconut cream, cinnamon, vanilla extract, as well as almond extract.
How to Make the BEST Nutella Coquito
Making coquito is all about balancing flavors and the same applies to this flavored Coquito recipe. My biggest concern when making this recipe was avoiding an overly sweetened taste. Nutella is extremely sweet, and so is coconut cream.
My solution: Remove the sweetened condensed milk and increase the rum quantity!
This small tweak allows the coquito to actually taste like coquito. This recipe has the perfect harmony of coconut and chocolate hazelnut flavors.
Another trick that makes this the best flavored coquito is the use of almond extract. When you look at the ingredients in Nutella spread, you will notice a large amount of hazelnuts. Almonds (or in this case almond extract) is an obvious compliment to the nutty flavor of Nutella.
Ingredients
The shopping list for Nutella flavored coquito ingredients is straight forward. You will need:
- Cream of Coconut (Crema de Coco)
- Nutella Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
- Evaporated Milk
- Vanilla Extract
- Almond Extract
- Cinnamon
