Why wait for the summer to make Homemade Peach Cobbler? The beauty of this recipe is that it uses frozen peaches, which makes this great YEAR-ROUND! You can even adapt this recipe to use canned peaches.
Using Frozen Peaches
Frozen peaches eliminates the need and waiting time involved with fresh peaches. Waiting for peaches to ripen is a thing of the past. Now, you can enjoy homemade peach cobbler anytime! This recipe is extremely simple. It starts by dumping roughly 2 pounds of frozen peaches in a glass casserole dish.
To create that iconic peachy thick sauce, you have create a slurry of sorts. This recipe calls for a mixture of sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Just pour the dry ingredients over the frozen peaches and quickly mix. Now let them rest. The juicy slurry magic starts while the peaches slowly soften and release their natural moisture.
Nata Tip: If using canned peaches, drain the liquid from each can for about 10 minutes before tossing them in the dry slurry mixture.
Buttery Cobbler Topping
I think everyone can agree that the BEST part of homemade peach cobbler is the buttery cobbler topping. I love this cobbler topping because it resembles a cake texture. Instead of the standard crumb topping, I opted for a cakey cobbler with more density and crispness.
To make this buttery cakey topping, while the frozen peaches are resting in the slurry mixture, begin by whisking the dry ingredients. Then, slowly folding in the wet ingredients. Here’s a quick overview of what you need for this buttery cobbler topping:
- All Purpose Flour
- White Sugar
- Salt
- Baking Powder
- Whole Milk
- Cold unsalted butter
- Beaten egg
- Vanilla extract (optional)
The key to making this cobbler topping is incorporating the butter last. As a matter of fact, the butter should be COLD, cubed and sprinkled on top of the mixed dry and wet ingredients. To enhance the crispness, I highly recommended sprinkling some turbinado or raw sugar on top of the butter. This will achieve some great texture and crystalized cake pieces.
Last step is to bake the homemade peach cobbler in a preheated oven just until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Serve with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream and ENJOY!
